More than 300​ ships were lost in the Thames Estuary during World War Two. Half of these were ships of the royal navy.

SWEEPING THE SCHELDT.​Queenborough Minesweepers made possible that urgently needed supplies arrive on the front line prior to the Battle of the Bulge.

also known as the Wreck or the Bomb Ship, sits in the Thames Estuary off Sheerness. 5,348 tons of bombs remain in her hold.

Wildfire III Minesweepers  open up Dutch Ports  allowing desperately needed food to arrive for the Dutch people who were starving to death.

THE ENEMY AT OUR DOOR.
Schnellboot attack shipping.
Planes drop mines and bomb ships.
Magnetic Mines sink hundreds of ships.

BATTLE OF THE SCHELDT. ​Canadian troops fight a heroic battle, in appalling conditions, to clear the banks of the Scheldt.

A BAD DAY IN DECEMBER 1940. From a single Minelaying raid over the Thames Estuary, by German Aircraft, sixteen ships were sunk in sight of Sheerness.

THE THAMES BOOM
To protect merchant and Royal Navy ships an anti-submarine net was placed across the Thames Estuary from Sheppey to Shoeburyness.
